Movie Activities for Kids

Love movies? Here are activities that turn watching into doing.

Movie Bingo

Make bingo cards with things to spot, such as a talking animal, a song, a chase, or a rainbow. Cross them off as you watch. First to complete a row wins.

Shadow Puppets

Shine a torch at a wall in a dark room. Use your hands or cut-out card shapes to tell a short story.

Flipbook Animation

Draw slightly different pictures on the corner of each page of a notepad and flip them quickly to see them move.

Home-Made Trailer

Pick a favorite film or invent your own. Use a phone to record a 30-second trailer with dramatic narration and music. Remember to give it a title card and a release date.

Popcorn Bar

Set out bowls of plain popcorn and toppings so everyone can make their own flavor.

Costume Day

Dress up as characters and act out a favorite scene.

Design a Poster

Create a poster for an imaginary film. Include a title, a tagline, and the names of your family as the stars.

Sound Effects Studio

Turn the sound down on a favorite scene and add your own effects using spoons, boxes, and paper. See who can come up with the most convincing rain, thunder, or footsteps.

Movie Charades

Act out a film title or character without speaking while others guess. Younger children can mime animals, and older ones can try whole scenes.

Safety Notes

Use a torch rather than candles for shadow puppets, and supervise children when they use scissors. Keep any recording safe by showing friends only with permission.

Movie Trivia Night

Write questions about your favorite films on small cards, such as who the main character is, what the song is called, or what happens at the end. Split into teams and take turns drawing cards. Younger children can answer with the help of an older team member, and everyone can vote on a prize for the funniest answer.

Film Festival

Pick a theme, such as animals or adventure, and watch two or three short films in a row. Give out homemade awards afterwards.

These activities encourage creativity, teamwork, and storytelling.
